2011 Desert Odyssey ... A New World Record!

With the completion of the 2011 Running with the Devil MARATHON, Sandy will have set another World Record. She will have competitively raced 3,799 kilometers (2,337 miles) in Deserts around the world. No other woman has accomplished this feat. 2011 Running With The Devil

Sandy is heading back to the Mojave Desert in June to take part in the Running with the Devil Marathon. This race takes place near Boulder City, Nevada. The event features unrelenting rolling hills that vary from one to eight percent in grade. Temperatures soar past 100 degrees with nary a cloud in sight. Following the sizzling run on the unforgiving ashpalt, athletes can look forward to jumping into Lake Mead, which is only steps away from the finish line.

2007 Guinness World Record
Sandy McCallum set out to accomplish a Desert Grand Slam and in doing so...set a new Guinness World Record. She became the only person in the world to compete in 6 desert ultramarathons in less than a year. She was on the podium in three of the 6 races and raced a total of 870 miles (1400 kilometers). The Desert Grand Slam took her to six different countries on three continents. She was away from home for almost 1/2 a year in pursuit of this goal. Click here to learn more.

Marathon Des Sables
CANADIAN DATA BASE		The Marathon des Sables is a legendary race in the world of ultramarathon running. It is a 150 mile stage race that takes place every year in the Sahara Desert in Morocco. Sandy McCallum is one of the few women in the world who has raced in this competition 9 times!
