Running with the Devil

What is Running With The Devil?
Most organizers go to great lengths to ensure their races are held in ideal running conditions; 40 degrees, light breeze, overcast. Many aim to make their courses flat and fast, or even downhill to facilitate runners who are aiming to smash their PR. Not this one! Held in summer through the dry Mojave Desert, athletes are challenged to contend with high heat and unrelenting rolling hills as they traverse this spectacularly scenic course. Sandy will be competing in the Marathon.

Where is Running With The Devil?
Running With The Devil takes place in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Las Vegas, Nevada. The course is an out-and-back run completely on pavement. This will be Sandy's longest race on pavement, as she normally loves to compete in trail races.

What Will The Weather Be Like for Running With The Devil?
Average temperatures can get up to 110 degrees with low humidity and little cloud cover. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke pose a serious threat. Runners are encouraged to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, stomach issues, kidney failure and foot care problems can all put an end to an athletes race.

Support for Running With The Devil
Sandy is being supported by Kenneth (Kenny) Baker. He is going to pace her for the final 13 miles. The two have never met before! He agreed to help her based on their mutual friendship with runner extraordinaire, Mark Jaget. Both men are residents of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kenny never spent a moment exercising prior to his 44th birthday in 2009. He began running with Mark and participated in his first marathon just 4 months later; Las Vegas' Inaugural Rock-N-Roll Marathon. He was hooked and immediately signed up for the San Diego Marathon. He has been running ever since and loving every minute of it.

Kenny is the senior agent with one of Prudentials premier Real Estate teams. Shapiro & Sher Group is often ranked in the top five teams nationally.
