What is The Sahara Race?
The Sahara Race is a 7 day stage-race that takes place in the Sahara Desert in Egypt, Africa. Competitors race 150 miles in six stages. Athletes are required to be self-sufficient, carrying all of their food and supplies they will need for the week on their backs. Organizers provide tents, medical aid and water. There are no toilets, showers or beds.
Where does The Sahara Race take place?
The Sahara Race will take runners through the desolate "White Desert". Here there are huge white formations that tower over the landscape. They are actually comprised of chalk, or limestone. They have been exposed for years to weathering or erosion that results in their fantastic shapes.
When is The Sahara Race?
The Sahara Race begins Sunday, October 29th and ends on Saturday, November 4th 2006. About 65 athletes from around the world will take part in this event.
What will the weather be like for The Sahara Race?
Last year, it was unbearably hot day and night. This year the competition will be held one month later, so hopefully, it will be a degree or two cooler. Maybe 49 degrees centigrade instead of 50 degrees centigrade!

The race will end in a 10km sprint to the finish line. It is one of the most spectacular finishes in the ultramarathon world of racing.
